Ok. Maybe I got an off night or a new chef, but the food was highly subpar. The sticky rice was watery, the soup salty yet bland and I fail to see how that was Pad Thai. It did not even look like Pad Thai. However, the waitress was kind, friendly and well worth her tip. Additional info- The food did not sit well, once again, may have been a bad night, but my self, as well as my family became ill not long afterwords with stomach pain.

Really liked the food. I got Pad Thai and my husband got cashew and chicken stir fry. The quality of the food was excellent, it tasted like it does in Thailand. We recommend this place.

One of Kona's first Thai restaurants. I still think it's the best. Over the years, more Thai restaurants have moved in, I've tried them all and I got nothing bad to say. But I keep coming back to Bangkok House because the food is good, authentic, and the service is always friendly and great. Save room for the mango n sticky rice or fried ice cream...or both!
(5)Greg H.
Amazingly good Panang curry! The service is good and the hospitality is amazing; smiling, friendly, and happy to have you is the way I felt!! Thai garlic wings were a great start to a great meal. Panang curry was complimented with the coconut sweet yet spicy taste of a true Thai curry! A truly pleasant experience!! Finished the meal with sticky rice mango and ice cream dessert; yum!!!!

I was there yesterday for the First Time with a friend. We shared summerrolls, which were good and I liked that they gave us two sauces. We also shared the Mail courses Pad Thai with chicken and Pumpkin Curry with chicken. The Pad Thai was ok, but the Curry was very good. We took all medium spicy and that was perfect for us. Would go there again.

I've had two very yummy dinners at Bangkok House. I will definitely be coming back regularly since the DUCK CURRY is so AWESOME!!! :) The first time we had dinner at Bangkok House we had the fried squid, duck curry and a noodle dish with gravy. The fried squid were delicious, but the standout was the BEST DUCK CURRY I have ever had!!! It's cooked crispy and then covered in the red curry sauce and although it's one of the highest priced items on the menu it is a very generous portion. I am hooked and so is my friend who accompanied me both times. We won't be ordering this noodle dish again, not the best, but did I mention the DUCK CURRY? On our second visit my friend wanted her own DUCK CURRY, so we had the fried squid again, (still great) and I had the Crispy Bangkok Duck, which was very good (and an ample serving), but just not as good as the DUCK CURRY. The service is totally perfect and it's a cozy little restaurant. I really like VERY HOT food and when I ordered my food "Thai Hot" (they have choices of spiciness) it was 'medium' and NOT all that hot. I'm sure the food is hotter than that in Thailand (I hope to visit someday). I will request my food hotter in the future since both times this was my experience. I look forward to trying more dishes, especially fish dishes, if you can get me away from ordering the DUCK CURRY. You won't be disappointed, eat at Bangkok House!

I've been a fan of the Bangkok House for over a decade. It's one of my favorite restaurants. Rarely do any of the flavors disappoint. Why only one star? Yesterday, after finishing lunch, and after the bill was paid, an adult cockroach appeared on our table top. This is the THIRD time over the years that this has happened here. Two of those times I've pointed it out to the staff. It's Hawaii. We have bugs here. But 3 times! I'll probably be back...someday...when the image of that fat roach fades. Come on Bangkok House, I wanna love you, but this is gross.
(1)Judie S.
Yes! Recommended to me by the captain of the deep sea fishing boat I chartered for the day, it did not disappoint - plus they made delish curry out of my catch! Yum, that's ono brah!
(5)Cheryl H.
Have loved Bangkok House for many years. Recently went and it is as good as ever. Great food. We love the papaya salad. Our Thai exchange student thought this was the most authentic Thai restaurant of the many in Kona.
(5)Bob V.
Mmmmm just mauka of the Courtyard King Kamehameha Hotel, very good, reasonably priced, ordered the stir fry veggies w/chicken in garlic sauce , spicy! :-) yum
(4)Jeffrey F.
Nice variety of dishes. The Tom Yum Gai soup is delicious! This is one of the few Thai restaurants that I have been to that actually get "Thai spicy hot" actually spicy enough! Kudos! The water has fresh fruit in it, which adds so much to the meal!
(4)Michael B.
The garlic wings are Da Best...We had the mixed vege stir fry with chicken...I really enjoyed it. Pumpkin and yellow curry all really good...and reasonable price...owner who was waiting that night was very nice...
(5)Rebecca F.
Let's start with the awesome. The green curry was amazing. I order mild; it still came spicy. Still, delicious. Tasted homemade. We started with the green mango salad. Skip it. Under ripe. The fried rice with chicken was burnt. Almost as if the oil it was tossed in was burnt. Too bad. Nam sod was bland and pedantic. A nod to Homer true, but also true of the dish. BTW service was non existent. If it was ever the best in town, perhaps not so much now. There MUST be better Thai on the island.

4.5 stars, I'd call this Thai comfort food or Thai home cooking. We'd been here on previous trips, and it was our first dinner this trip because of its reliable high quality and convenient Kona location in the King K Mall on Kuakini, just past Palani. They are really helpful with the spice levels. I grew up in Louisiana so heat and I are friends, but my girlfriend prefers milder flavors. They had no trouble meeting both our expectations. She actually prefers the pad thai here to the famous pad thai at Thai Basil in Chantilly, VA (the one that beat Bobby Flay on "Throwdown"). I usually go for a chicken satay and crispy duck, which is just superb here. Great value, great food, perfect way to start our vacation eating in Kona.
(4)Janice T.
Service was slow, but they do have the best duck curry. The duck was perfectly crispy, the curry sauce was perfectly flavored. Totally worth the wait! I wasn't a fan of the deep fried ono fillet in thai hot and spicy sauce. The fried squid, on the other hand, was also worth trying.
(4)Luca L.
Good food and smiling service. We enjoyed the meals with fresh rolls, padthai and pineapple fried rice Good food and not expensive. Approved!
(4)Pumi P.
The first thing you need to keep in mind if you decide to eat here is that it's a small restaurant. Most people who work there seem to be family members, mothers, daughters and the like. So please be patient and kind. If you want food fast then go to McDonald's or Taco Bell. But if you stick around for just a bit you will find yourself enjoying the best authentic thai cuisine here on the Big Island. The noodle dishes are the kind of savory sweet and hot flavor that southeast asian food is know for and the curry has the right punch that gets your attention without beating your tongue for it. And if you're looking for something sweet to drink then the Thai ice tea is what I recommend. It's the right kind of sweet taste without the fear feeling of getting diabetes. You won't find better thai food anywhere on the island and despite the lack of more family to help serve the food, the taste of the meal more then makes up for the wait.
(5)Jennie M.
Great place to come and have dinner with friends. I didn't find the service slow but maybe I was just having too much fun with the people that I was with. Really tasty food - we spilt a salad and two entrees. I continue to crave their fried bananas where each banana slice was individually wrapped.
(4)Brendon C.
This is probably the most authentic Thai restaurant that you will find on the Big Island. it's been around for decades and its proprietors still cook there and serve the meals. you'll find all your favorite Thai dishes but made with much fresher ingredients and little twists and some changes to sauces and flavors that really exponentiate the awesomeness that is Thai food. It can be a bit hard to find being located upstairs next to tattoo parlor but rest assured once you do find it you'll be amazed at the reasonable prices for great service and the killer food. I highly recommend their calamari. the squid is caught and grilled fresh. their beef with broccoli is also amazing it tastes like they make their oyster sauce in house.
(5)Lisa M.
Really great find! We were looking for takeout and craving Thai, saw this place had decent Yelp reviews so decided to check it out. We started with the spring rolls, we also ordered the green papaya salad, shrimp with peanut sauce, pad Thai and red curry chicken, all were very tasty, and the servings were enough to share. Close to downtown could walk from most hotels. A good find and defiantly a place we would visit again.
(5)I P.
It is a horrible Thai food! I ordered red curry with vegetable fried rice. There is no flavor in the food. Red curry is supposed to be sweeter due to coconut milk and spicy too (since I asked her make it spicy) but it was neither! I also ordered vegetable spring rolls. They were horrible!! No flavor! I wasted my $35 dollars on what is supposed to be good food! I have Thai food all the time in Ohio. When you ask them they can make it spicy. But this Thai food sucked! Don't be fooled by the ratings! I looked at the ratings before I went and ordered!

Went here last night after meeting a Kona resident of 20yrs in the ocean in Kauai who said this was a must try. So we figured we would go out on her recs. It was UNBELIEVABLE. Fresh, tasty, authentic Thai. We were floored. We are staying at The Four Seasons and we were always set on the restaurants we love here, but we were figuring out ways to get back here for more meals during our stay. So so good. We got the chicken pad thai, pork fried rice, and green curry with chicken. All were amaze balls, not one bad thing to report. The fried rice just burst with flavors in your mouth, light, fluffy, and fresh. Everything was light, non greasy, and freshest ingredients. Did I mention fresh??? Lol. Our server was so friendly and attentive makings sure everything was alright. We love finding hot authentic local spots and this is Def one. You will not be disppointed. If you love thai or are looking to change it up from Hawaiian fish fare, go here.
(5)Aileen P.
My family and I LOVED it here! Everything we had was so delicious and we devoured it. I loved the pumpkin curry and my mom's mango curry was amazing. Would definitely go again when I'm in Kona (:
(5)Kenson K.
Boo, you suck. They were severely understaffed. I came in here tonight and waited at the door. Had to flag down the waitress/hostess that I wanted a seat. Then I waited for about 10 minutes at the table with no water and no service. I was looking at the other tables and looks like they were in the same predicament. One table even picked up and left because the hostess never came by. I was about to do the same when she finally came by. I ordered the green papaya salad. Pretty good. I also ordered the red thai curry with chicken. I was meh, mediocre. I've had better curry at other thai joints. I made sure to tell the waitress I wanted the bill when she cleared my table because I wanted to get out of there within the hour. Don't think I'll be back here.
(2)Jasper R.
We visited here more then once during our stay at the near by hotel. The place is small and hidden in the upper corner of the shopping strip. The food is delicious and service is good. Our server was quick to remember us and recommend dishes based on our prior visit. Highly recommend this place if you like Thai or like to Thai try.
(4)Ted D.
This place is the bench mark for Thai food in Kona... I have eaten literally 250+ gallons of Tom Yum Ghai at this restaurant... 3 to 5 bowls a week for almost ten years... There is only one cook, the owner, Alex who is the husband of Sunni one of the servers. He works every service six days a week and does all the prep work and clean up, even mops the floor at night... So if you ever have anything that's not just to your liking he is probably just all tuckered out....
(5)Tracy M.
The poor waitress had all the tables to herself with no help! Needless the say, we waited a while for her to seat us, and then to take our order. She offered us a better table as soon as it was available. We had soy sauce noodles (their version of pad see ew), pineapple fried rice, and pineapple curry. We got all of the dishes "American hot" but the "Thai hot" would have been even better. It was delicious! As we were paying our bill, she apologized for the wait and was super friendly. I'd recommend getting your food to go - I would've given it 5 stars if we had done that!
(4)Pismole T.
Out of all Thai resto in kona , they made the best seafood soup, and price are fair. Suggestion :Beef salad ,Thai chicken wing papaya salad, phatthai . Not recommend: fried rice . Personal choice : I don't like it
(5)Karen N.
This Thai restaurant is CONSISTENTLY the best food, ambiance, and service in town! We went tonight and I had the Tofu Curry, my husband the Spicy Peanut Noodle dish.....both delicious! Thank You!
(4)Charles L.
Got the Pad Thai. It was pretty mediocre but the prices were pretty good for Hawaii.
(3)Russ C.
Had the spring rolls, chicken pad Thai and. Beef with fresh garden vegetables. It was all fantastic. Plus the sticky rice is really good too.
(5)Mikella W.
I have been really close friends with the owner's daughter since we were 4 years old and I worked here in the past. I must say, I've tried a lot of Thai places on O'ahu and nothing can compare to my friend's dad's cooking (he is the one and only chef). The dishes that I love the most is tom yum or tom kha soup, beef salad, and definitely can't forget fried ice cream or fried banana for dessert. I could seriously eat at this place every single day and not get sick of it because I have actually done so. Come here if you want to eat an ethnic, home cooked style meal in a low-key setting. Also, the price is on the cheaper side.
(5)Frank R.
After the good reviews I read, I was thinking we must have hit this place on an off night, cuz this just wasn't good. In fact, pretty bland. The spring rolls were greazy, the green papaya salad was absolutely tasteless. My wife said the green curry was okay, nothing special. Server was real nice, however the service was VERY slow as she was the only one on the floor. In fact, as I write this review, I'm still waiting for my check as we sit for 25 minutes now with dirty plates in front of us. Skip this place.
(2)Lyle B.
Excellent!! The beef salad is the best I have had in Hawaii. The pepper steak is also my favorite. You need to order it spicy because the flavors come alive. The service is quick and courteous.
(5)Cristian G.
We came here during our stay in Kona. One of the more affordable places near our hotel, but more importantly, one of the most delicious restaurants near our hotel. The service was terrific, and the desserts were especially yummy. I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone. I've had lots of Thai food, and for what you're paying, you get some pretty tasty Thai food. I recommend their Peanut Noodles dish, their yummy Pineapple fried rice, and their Fresh Fish of the day dish (which they were kind enough to cook in a peanut sauce for me and mix it in with their noodles since I loved that dish so much).
(5)Steve K.
Should I confess a secret addiction to Thai take out? This place and Charley's in the old industrial are my two thai take out standards. They do the usual pad thai etc, and we are always happy to enjoy takeout from here. Can't tell you about in-house experience, but am happy with their takeout. Excellent summer rolls, sizzling chicken, pad thai, the usuals. Haven't gotten into the curries yet :)......
(4)Maurice S.
Pretty good Thai. Not great. Very nice people there and good vibe. I would go again to support. Still gonna look for that "awesome" Thai spot in Kona. This wasn't it.
(3)Ken A.
The service was great and the food was good too. I did like the beef salad. It was recommended by other Yelpers too! The prices were decent as well. There are plenty of Thai or Thai influenced restaurants to choose from in Kona. Bangkok is among the better ones.
(4)Kazoua T.
If it was in CA, I would give them TWO stars but we're talking about Hawaii here. The staff is friendly and service is decent. The food was mediocre. Don't order the chicken larb, no way is that an authentic dish. We had two curries which were considered the best dishes by the parents. We also had the pad thai which is passable...skip on the pad see ew...because it's made with thin noodles and very dry. Don't ever get the meat with mixed vegetables...it was a plethora of veggies that they probably needed to get rid of. Overall, if I were ever back in town, I wouldn't come back. Probably go try another place.
(3)Rebekah G.
Although not the very best Thai food in Kona, as there are lots of options, the family owned atmosphere and good food at Bankok make it a great place for delicious food, close to Ali'i drive. They have a menu section for vegetarian options and will also adapt other items on the menu if possible. They will also honor requests for no fish sauce, eggs, or dairy. The coconut curries are excellent, as are the spicy tofu/veg and the soy noodle dishes. we walked in about 15 minutes prior to closing time and they were happy to serve us.
(4)Kenny C.
Cozy little restaurant next to King Kamehameha's Beach Hotel. Went there for lunch and they had great tasting food with quick service. The price was just right. Would like to back again for dinner this time.
(4)Nanci Z.
Very good Thai. My husband had the Pork Katsura special and liked it. I got the Three Friends with brown rice. I asked for the dish to be prepared spicy hot and it was done just right. Not too much or too little. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the brown rice. It's a mix of a variety of rices and was cooked to perfection. Decent prices and we left full and satisfied. Would definitely go back.
(4)J H.
Favorite Thai eatery in kona! A hole in the wall with amazing food! Be prepared for a bit of a wait for the food and go early to get a table! So worth every penny!
(5)Aaron M.
This place is good. It isn't really 5 stars but compared to the other Thai places in town (I'm shaking my head at you Krua) it is the best thing ever. Tastes like good Thai food. People were nice. I definitely recommend it for Thai in Kona.
(5)Lani G.
The workers are corteous and friendly, but I was pretty disappointed with my pad thai. It was too sweet and oily. I've had my fill of better Thai food at other locations.
(2)Robin C.
We've been working our way through the Thai restaurants in Kailua Kona. This is the best we've had. Great flavors and a good amount of heat. Standout items for me have been the eggplant stir fry (we had it with chicken) and the pad thai noodles.
(4)Andy W.
If you're not a big fan of Thai (like me) try the excellent Beef Salad and Massaman Curry. Nice people, great food, and a cozy feel.
(4)A P.
This is a no-frills restaurant that offers decent Thai food at a reasonable price. It's situated in a small shopping center / office complex away from the hustle bustle. Parking is either directly in front of the restaurant, or to the side, and it wasn't a problem at all. We ordered chicken satay for an appetizer, thai iced coffee, green curry, and sticky rice, and that was all good. We also ordered some kind of stir-fried vegetarian entree with cashew nuts, but I won't say I particularly liked that as much as the green curry. Maybe it's just me; I tend to prefer entrees with more sauce or curry in them. The hostess is a wonderful lady; and the service was excellent. All in all, we had a good dinner, and we'll certainly visit them again the next time we're on the Big Island.
(4)Linda P.
Great dinner tonight. Reasonable prices.
(5)TJ G.
Just finished a very good vegetarian meal for six. All the dishes were great - no misses. Very attentive service. Good price for Hawaii
(5)Ed A.
Very good Thai food. Lunch specials for $6.50 are a real bonus.

my family and i have been going to bangkok house for some years now, a friend of my hubby introduced him to this place so lastnight, spur of the moment, he decided to have dinner and a movie. so dinner at bangkok hse., then a movie...we alomst always order the same thing, the kids love it. chix fried rice, shrimp fried rice, fried egg w/ shrimp, hot sour soup, chix wings w/ thai sauce, papaya salad..for dessert, the kids got the fried ice cream, sticky rice n mango and of course tapioca. needless to say, waitress was very kind, friendly, service and food is always excellent..... the prik nam pla.....awesome hot!!! trah try dis place.......u goin like um!!
(5)Mark C.
Have eaten here many many times during my many trips to Kona. My wife and I have become friends with the owner, the husband cooks and wife serves. She is so sweet and helpful. Best Thai in Kona and we have tried them all and know Thai food well as have spent alot of time in Thailand. The larb gai is delish, as is the Tom Yum Goong. However, the chicken wings in the sweet spicy sauce are unreal. on my way back to kona in two weeks and will eat there at least twice in 10 days. Don't miss this place.
(4)carl h.
went there twice , food was ok, took a little long till we got our food. you have to ask for rice, didnt serve it with our entree. portions a little bit small. 3-4 stars.
(3)Chris G.
I yelped a five star yesterday and I'm doing it again tonight...this food was incredible. In fact, it was, in our estimation, better than the previous evening's food which I also rated 5 starts. Had the spicy noodles (American spicy) and seafood delight...both amazing. It is obviously a small establishment, so service wasn't right there as there is one person managing the entire restaurant, but the food more than makes up for it. Best Thai I've had in ages. They say Original Thai is good, but I haven't had it...this place was really tasty and super easy to find.
(5)Evil J.
I've been coming here for years and really enjoy this restaurant. Tucked away on a hill up above King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, this place feels like a kid's tree house where one can secretly enjoy a private, low-key meal. The staff here are fantastic and seem to really take pride in their food. Service was quick too, with our food arriving nearly instantaneously during our last visit. For something special, order their green papaya salad which is the tops! Ambiance is cozy and this is a great place to take a date, or spending a quiet dinner by yourself. An excellent bet in Kailua-Kona.
(4)Matthew S.
Best Thai in Kona! And that's saying something. There are a million Thai restaurants here. We've tried 4 or 5 different ones and Bangkok House was the best. It was unbelievable how fast they brought our food out, and when they did it was fresh and tasted delicious. I recommend their Pad Thai, which is what my wife got.. I got the Peanut Sauce noodles and they were good too. It's very affordable, compared to most other restaurants on the island too.
